Burning Creativity: Exciting Updates & Inspiration Inside!

Hello, Smoky Wood family!

It’s Petra here, checking in from my studio where wood meets fire, and creativity comes to life. I have some exciting updates, inspiring stories, and creative tips to share with you this week!

Coasters are coming back

In late 2023 and early 2024, I stopped creating coasters as I was making bigger pieces. In 2021 and 2022, those were some of my best sellers, and while I don’t know if they will ever have that same status again, I am excited to bring them back.

I am currently using 4-inch Baltic Birch Plywood instead of tree slices. I will bring those back once I find a supplier with what I am looking for. Not all wood is great to burn on and some wood is better than others for coasters specifically.

Seasonal Surprise Box Update

Each box is a limited-edition collection of handmade treasures designed to capture the magic of the season. Whether you’re treating yourself or gifting someone special, these curated boxes bring joy, whimsy, and craftsmanship into your home.

I have finished with the little eggs, and I mean, they are little; they measure about 1-5/8″.

I will be adding one more egg-related item to the box, and the wall art designs are also ready to go. I just need to purchase the wood before I get started on that.

I am only releasing 25 of these boxes, so I’d claim one now if you want one.

Reason #1 I am a full-time artist

My son currently has several lab draws going on which means I have to adjust my schedule to take him.

Back when I was still working for someone else, it became challenging as I had to miss a lot of work to take care of him to the point I had to quit as his need was too big.

Due to his disability, he doesn’t drive but this has been a great reminder for me to acknowledge why I became self-employed in the first place.

Quick Tip: Choosing the Right Wood for Pyrography

Did you know? Softwoods like basswood and poplar are perfect for beginners because they’re smooth and easy to burn. Want more tips? Check out my free course for pyrography beginners!
