Hey there,
I get asked all the time what wood I use for pyrography. Followed up with, “I have this tree in my yard” if you want to have it.
I love free supplies, but the reality is that not all wood is great, or even safe, to use for pyrography. I have to consider the wood’s hardness, softness, grain density, and color.
My favorites to use are Basswood, Poplar, and Birch. I never use green wood (fresh cut), or anything chemically treated. And while Pine is fine to use you need a good ventilation system.
We currently have an 80-foot Poplar Tree that we cut down last year curing and drying so that it can be used for my art. I like light wood so that you can see the art.
Now onto the winner of July’s Contest!
Congratulations Sheila B.! I will be reaching out to you!
