It would be easy to assign meanings to the animals in this collection.
Deer as gentleness.
Wolf as leadership.
Raven as mystery.
But that’s not what this work is asking for.
The animals in Held Between Light aren’t symbols or stand-ins for ideas. They’re presences, held in a moment of awareness. I’m less interested in what they “represent” and more interested in how they feel.
Have you ever locked eyes with an animal on the trail?
There’s no narrative. No explanation. Just a shared pause. A recognition. Then one of you moves on.
That’s the moment I’m working from.
By avoiding overt symbolism, I leave space for the viewer to bring their own experience. Their own stillness. Their own memories of being noticed by something wild.
This work doesn’t tell a story. It holds one.
And it trusts the viewer to meet it halfway.
Held Between Light is a limited collection of layered wood pieces, released individually and finished by hand.
