Artistic Journey

I’m about to sound a cliche as it’s going to get!

I have always created art but my journey started more as a crafter than an artist. It was a way for me to disconnect from the harsh realities I lived growing up in foster care. I’ve explored many mediums and my journey started when I was 17 and picked up the crochet hook for the first time. This was my passion for a long time until I accidentally learned that I am pretty good at wood-burning.

Who knew that wanting to design your wood beads would lead to a career as a pyrography artist?

Over the years, my passion has grown when it comes to wood burning – whether it is creating a realistic piece or something whimsical. Each piece starts with an idea that I get while I am on a hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains or Shenandoah National Park.

Favorite Tools & Mediums

  • Favorite Medium: Wood-burning and crochet
  • Go-To Tools: Procreate, Excel, pencil, and wood.
  • Inspiration: Nature in itself. Whether it is a tree that is the center of attention at an overlook or an old homestead from 100 years ago still being preserved. Or maybe it’s a mushroom or a funny-looking root that makes a good fairy home.

Current Projects

Right now, I’m working on a series I’ve named “Meet Virginia. I will be recreating wood-burning photographs I have taken over the last 20 years. Starting with the Hofauger House located in Explore Park, Roanoke.

  • Favorite Color: Blue
  • Hobbies: Reading, Hiking, and going to concerts.
  • Random: I am musically trained in classical music playing the recorder.
