Knowing about wood selection and preparation is something that I didn’t have readily available to me when I first started wood-burning. A lot of this I learned from doing research as well as experimenting.
The reality is not all woods are great for a wood-burning project, nor are they safe to be used. While using pine to wood-burn may not effect you now, it could affect you years later. This is a decision only you can make for yourself and it’s best to have information to make this decision.
In the Wood Selection and Preparation Tutorial I wanted to make sure I covered the different wood species and characteristics as well as the toxicity of different woods. I added a wood toxicity pdf for you to download so you have that handy.
I want you to be able to choose the right wood for your project.
I also share some information on how best to prepare your wood and a little bit about adding color so you can if coloring your project is for you!
